About us

How It All Began? 

The seed of the Playa del Carmen Pickleball Club was planted in 2020 with a simple Facebook post by John and Kelly Dobos: "Who wants to play Pickleball in Playa?". This initiative, born out of their love for the game back in Canada, quickly germinated into a group of six enthusiasts playing at Royal Hideaway in Playacar. With just one net, a few paddles, and balls, the first games were played with a spirit that would define our club. 

The group steadily grew, attracting locals and tourists, and soon, it was evident that a larger space was needed. John's efforts led us to the Poliforum Sports Facility, where our capacity expanded to five courts. This growth was fueled by the hard work and support of individuals like Panama Sarah, Chris Conrad, Lita Hoffman, and friends from Canada. As John and Kelly frequently returned to Canada, Jeffrey Blake took over the day-to-day responsibilities, fostering the club's growth to over 1,600 members, six courts, and a bustling schedule including night plays. 

Our Mission 

The mission of the Playa del Carmen Pickleball Club is to promote the sport of Pickleball, fostering a community that embodies health, inclusivity, and social connection. Our aim is to provide a welcoming environment where players of all levels can improve their skills, engage in friendly competition, and experience the joy and benefits of Pickleball. We strive to be a pillar in the community, contributing to the growth of the sport locally and beyond, while nurturing a space where everyone can feel at home.
